SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
We use simple present Tense to talk about:
1.    Habitual action
Exsamples:
Ø I go to school by bicycle everyday
Ø My sister usually drinks a glass of milk for her breakfast
Ø The lesson stars at 07.00 o’clock
2.   General truth
Exsample
Ø The sun rises in the east
Ø Water boils in 1000 C
3.   Type of Sentence
Positif (+)
S+ V1 + s/es
S+ tobe (is, am, are) + O
Exsample:
I study English twice a week
Rina oten studies English at home
Iam a tudent

Negative (-)
S+do/does+not+V1
S+tobe (is, am, are) +not + O
Exsample:
I don’t study English twice a week
Rina doesn’t often study English at home
Iam not a student

Interrogative (?)
Do/does + S+ V1 ?
Tobe (is, am, are) +S +O ?
Exsample:
Do you study English twice a week?
Does Rina often study English at home?
Are you a student?





Note:
-      In the 3rd person singular we normally add –s to infinitive, e.g. clean – cleans
-      when the verb ends in –s, -ch, -sh, -x, or –z, we add – es. e.g. fix – fix- fixes,



Greetings
Below are some expressions of greeting:
a.   Formal expressions
·      good morning
·      good afternoon
·      good evening
·      good night
some of the responses are:
·      hello
·      hello, good morning
·      good afternoon
·      good evening
note:
·      good morning is used from 12:01 a.m. (from the time you wake up) until 11:59 a.m
·      good afrenoon is used from 12:01 p.m until 6:00 p.m
·      good evening is used from 6:00 p.m until 9:00 p.m
·      good night is used before you go to bed ( and / from 6:00 p.m to mid night)
b.   Informal Expression
·      hello
·      how are you doing?
·      how’s life?
·      what’s new?
·      how’s everything?
·      how are you getting on?
·      how’s life treating you?
·      how are things?
·      how are you?
some of the responses are:
·      fine
·      hello
·      not to bad, thanks
·      just fine
·      great, thanks
·      very well,thank you
·      fine, thanks

Saying Goodbye
Below are some expressions of saying goodbye:
a.   formal
·      goodbye
·      stay in touch
·      it was nice to meet you
·      i hope to see you soon
some of the responses are:
·      goodbye
·      nice to meet you, too

b.  informal
·      bye- bye
·      talk to you later
·      nice seeing you
·      so long
·      see you to night
·      see you later
·      goodbye
note:
see you (soon, later, again, tomorrow,etc) are usually preceded by goodbye/ good night.


  
Introductions
Below are some expression used for self introductions:
·      may I introduce myself? my name is linda
·      let me introduce my self. my name is linda
·      allow me to introduce my self. my name is linda
after an introduction, we usually say some of the expression below:
·      I am glad to meet you
·      I am happy to see you
·      I am plased to know you
·      It’s nice to see you
·      It’s a pleasure meeting you






The present continuous tense
1.   The present continuous tense ( sometimes called the present progressive) is formed from the present tense of to be and the –ing from of the main verb.
Example :
Iam singing                 I’m singing
You are singing            you’re singing
He is singing               he’s singing
It is singing                it’s singing

2.  The present continuous is used for an action which is taking place now, at the present moment, in the exact present.
Exsample:
He’s sing now, at this moment
He’s copying the letter now, at this moment

3.  The contracted forms are almost always used in conversation.

4.  A subject or a subject pronoun must be used, the subject must be omitted.

5.  It is commonly use as a subject when talking about the weather, as in the following sentences.
Example :
it’s raining
it’s snowing
it’s sunny
it’s a nice day

Patterns
a.    Affirmative = S + to be + V ing + adverb
Ex: I am practicing English now

b.    Negative= S +to be + not + V ing + adverb
Ex: He is not practicing English now

c.    Interrogative = tobe + S + Ving + adverb + ?
Ex: are you practicing English now?

Spelling problems
1.   Verbs ending –e, drop –e when they are added by –ing
-      Come + ing = coming
-      Blame + ing = blaming
-      Hope + ing = hoping
Tetapi
-      Dye + ing : carrying
-      Flee + ing : fleeing
-      See + ing : seeing
2.  When –ing is added to a verb ending in –y, its –y does not change.
-      Carry + ing : carrying
-      Marry + ing : marrying
-      Obey + ing : obeying
-      Cry + ing : crying
3.  When –ing is added to a verb ending in –ie, it changes into –y
-      Die + ing : dying
-      Lie + ing : lying
4.  Verb with one syllable, ending in one vowel and one consonant, double the consonant when they are added by – ing
-      Dig + ing : digging
-      Sit + ing : sitting
-      Stop + ing : stopping
-      Swim + ing : swimming

     

Preposition
To express and existence, we use:
There + is + noun ( tunggal ) atau uncountable noun + adverb
There + are + noun (jamak) + adverb
The adverb use is adverb of place
To indicate the adverb of place use the preposition, like:
-      On                                             - between
-      In                                              - behind
-      Above                                        - beside
-      Under                                        - at
-      In front of                                - next to
Example
-      There is a picture on the wall
-      There are people at the market
-      There are some fruits in the basket
